iRobot - Changing Things

Published on October 8, 2008 by admin

From iRobot.com:

iRobot delivers innovative robots that are making a difference in people’s lives. From cleaning floors to disarming explosives, we constantly strive to find better ways to tackle dull, dirty and dangerous missions—with better results.

iRobot has been very successful putting the Roomba into homes. You may have one or know someone who does. More than 3 million of them have been sold. Ten years ago, it would have been surprising to think that a vacuum cleaning robot would lead the public to accept robot technology. iRobot also makes gutter cleaning robots, industrial robots, and battlefield robots for the military. This past Friday, the U.S. Army’s TARDEC, Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, asked iRobot to build two “Warrior 700” robots for a price of $3.75 million. iRobot is currently providing the army with at least five other different model robots -SUGV, the Negotiator, xBot, R-Gator, and the Seaglider and the Ranger.

Maybe one of iRobot’s best inspirations is this video.
